Interior design and project management project for social area in a suburban isolated home

COMMISSION

The client wanted to focus in his 48m2 living room, which due to its dimensions and use was bland and unpleasant, the assignment was proposed as the “Colonization” of the social area.

PROPOSAL

The solution adopted proposes four pieces at points that are recognized as critical through architectural and design elements that star in the space and dialogue with each other with the final touch that the character furniture of the space.

Action 1. Conflict between the living room and direct arrivals from the outside, garage, kitchen, bathroom door directly over the living room and passage to the garden/pool. Converting the space into a permanent circulation area. A space separator block is proposed, containing a wardrobe and a seat to leave clothes and shoes from outside on the circulation/washroom arrivals side and on the opposite side, the living room, a decorative one, articulated with vertical wooden bands whose interval generates a kinetics perception.

Action 2. As a result of the expansion of the living room, a high metal beam is located in the centre of the room and reduces the height to 2.15m, creating an uncomfortable visual and perceptual point there. A curved organic element is proposed that gives continuity to the ceiling, to soften the impact produced by the metal beam, which in turn has a utilitarian function, a running lamp with a thread of light in its connection with the ceiling.

Action 3. Longitudinal element in the form of a continuous shelf that serves as support when there are social activities, meetings, etc. Made of oak with a horizontal surface that facilitates maintenance.

Action 4. The large windows in the living room flood the room with uncontrolled light at certain times of the year. For this purpose, sliding wooden lattices are proposed on the exterior face to filter and control that light and give character to the façade towards the pool. -This last action was not finally carried out-
